I had some mixed experiences during my stay at The Barnes. While the staff were incredibly polite and welcoming, I found issues with my accommodation that detracted from my overall enjoyment. It was frustrating to deal with a lack of sunlight and issues with the bathroom door, yet the location was fantastic, being right in the heart of Union Square.

The room I was allocated had no sunlight, which made it feel quite dull and uninviting. The sliding bathroom door also had a sticking issue.

The Barnes San Francisco offers a charming stay with its unique boutique vibe and great location in the heart of Union Square. The staff is friendly, and the modernized rooms have a funky flair. However, the noise from the street can be bothersome, and some amenities need improvement.

Rooms
6.0
The room was nicely appointed but felt a bit small for the price. The bathroom had some cleanliness issues, and noise leakage from outside was noticeable.
Service

I found the front-desk staff to be very helpful and friendly. They did their best to assist me despite a few operational hiccups.
Location

You can't beat the location in the heart of Union Square. However, accessing the hotel can be tricky due to the street blockades for trolleys.
Dining

I enjoyed the breakfast options, although the coffee could use some work. The fruit was fresh, but the cooked items weren't great.
Facilities

The lobby area was beautifully decorated, and the gym was brand new. However, I found the elevators to be quite slow, and there was ongoing construction.

5.0/10

My stay at The Barnes San Francisco had its ups and downs. While the location is perfect for exploring the city and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I found the rooms to be quite small and in need of updates. The cleanliness and amenities left something to be desired, especially the awkwardly designed bathroom and the lack of a microwave in the room.

Rooms
6.0
The room I stayed in felt cramped, especially the bathroom which was extremely small with barely any space to move. There were cleanliness issues, like the carpet not being vacuumed properly. The bed was okay enough for a night's sleep, but the pillows could use an upgrade.
Service
7.0
The staff were helpful, especially when I needed assistance at check-in. However, phone communication with the front desk was frustrating. often the line was busy. Overall, service was satisfactory, though it had room for improvement.
Location
8.0
Being in the heart of Union Square was a big plus for me. It was easy to access public transportation and explore nearby neighborhoods. it made my getaway convenient. While the area is a bit touristy and has its share of challenges, it was centrally located.
Dining
6.0
The complimentary breakfast was adequate with fresh fruit and pastries. I did wish for a bit more variety. but it served its purpose. Just a bit awkward having to confirm my guest status each time.
Facilities
5.0
The hotel looks like it was stylishly updated, but it still felt old. I was disappointed to find no microwave in my room, and the coffee amenities were limited. While the decor was modern, the lack of basic facilities detracted from the overall experience.

I had a mixed experience at The Barnes San Francisco. While the location near Union Square and access to the cable car lines were fantastic, my room didn't meet my expectations regarding size and cleanliness. The building has a unique charm, but it shows its age, and I encountered some service issues during my stay.

Rooms
5.0
My room was smaller than I expected and not exceptionally clean upon check-in, with some bobby pins on the floor. However, after reporting it, I was offered a cleaner room.
Service
5.0
I found the service to be hit or miss. The front desk was somewhat helpful, but I did experience some frustration with staff communication, especially regarding breakfast entitlement.
Location

The hotel is in a prime location right in the heart of Union Square, making it very convenient for exploring the city and accessing public transportation.
Dining

Breakfast included some homemade pastries which were decent but felt a bit basic and not as fresh as I would have liked.
Facilities

The hotel has a charming older building feel, but it is in need of updates. Some areas felt dark and grungy, affecting the overall ambiance.

I stayed at The Barnes San Francisco for a quick trip and had a generally positive experience. The location is fantastic, placing me right in the heart of Union Square, but I did encounter a few minor issues. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff were very accommodating, which made up for the small room size and slightly dated decor. Overall, it was a comfortable stay with some room for improvement.

Rooms
7.0
The room was small but clean and equipped with necessary amenities. I appreciated the comfortable bed, though I noticed some areas felt a bit outdated.
Service

The staff was friendly and willing to help, especially Jeff at the front desk who made my check-in smooth. They accommodated my requests promptly.
Location

The location can't be beat; it's easy to walk to major attractions and has excellent access to public transport. Everything I wanted to see was within walking distance.
Dining

I enjoyed breakfast options available in the bar area, which were of good quality despite the price. There are also many dining options nearby.
Facilities

Facilities were decent, but there was no parking on site, which was inconvenient. I had to find parking nearby.
